Chhati Sharif in Ajmer: understanding the monthly observance

Chhati Sharif is observed on the sixth day of each Hijri month at Ajmer Sharif. Knowing which calendar the date refers to helps you plan the right arrival and stay.

What does Chhati Sharif mean?

The Ministry of Minority Affairs records Chati Sharif as a monthly observance and describes special Fateha Khwani, or prayers, at the shrine. The name is also commonly written Chhati or Chathi Sharif.

The sixth day refers to the Hijri calendar. It does not mean the sixth date of each English-calendar month.

How it differs from the annual Urs

The monthly observance and the annual Urs programme are separate occasions. The Ministry’s report lists them separately. When arranging your journey, tell the hotel whether your visit is for monthly Chhati Sharif or the annual Urs.
